Sad: Edge of Spider-Verse was rejected for Yuletide. :( It's understandable - if a bunch of people had been interested and nominated characters from all the different issues (not that that was very likely...), what a matching nightmare - but still sad.

Happy: Spider-Gwen is apparently getting her own series! I did not expect this at all, because she called herself Spider-Woman, and we already have one of those, in a new, upcoming ongoing no less. What are they going to call it??? But next year Spider-Gwen is a go, assuming I actually like the comic.

Sad: Covert Affairs was not eligible, so I could not fulfill my endless (truly endless) Annie/Eyal desires, either through reading or writing. Will have to wait for NPT next year, and various rare pairing exchanges. Assuming someone else out there in the fannish universe wants to write them... please write them for me

Happy: Fraction/Aja Hawkeye is ending, but Hawkeyes will be picked up in a new series featuring both Clint and Kate next year. Yes, please!

Still slightly bitter over the change in Kate's characterization w/r/t her family's wealth from the original YA (you had ONE JOB, Fraction, ONE JOB), so here's hoping.

Sad: I can only make six requests for Yuletide.

Happy: I have almost my entire letter written! It is very... enthusiastic. Hope I don't annoy you, dear writer.

I made a comment in the Yuletide pimp post about Gwen Stacy being fridged and got taken to task for it (rightfully, as I haven't read the comic; good job, self). At the time I just considered it one of those self-evident facts that ~everyone knows~, akin to saying Clark Kent and Lois Lane date. Not the case, it turns out! Some interesting discussion popped up about it.

I'm having trouble linking to the specific comment (LJ, ugh) but here's the post and my comment is pretty easy to find - I think it's #11 or 12. Anyway, someone else brought up Simone's original list (Gwen's on it, which I knew) and an interesting quote from the writer of The Night Gwen Stacy Died. The commenter also explained much more clearly and coherently why, in general terms, you can say that a story contains fridging but that it's still a good story (which I fumbled, I think, IDK what I was thinking for that second comment).

I also posed the question to FFA, knowing SOMEONE would be able to enlighten me if there was disagreement or controversy. Responses were mixed: Some said they've read the comic and that she was fridged, others that they haven't read the comic but also heard she was fridged, and still others that said she was not fridged (wish they would say why?). Probably the best point that was made is that the Gwen story happened before pretty much all the others (well before even the trope namer), which I didn't know, and that it isn't fair to judge it as taking part in a larger trend when the trend wasn't even around yet.

I have posted a lot of exchange letters, so feel free to trawl through those too, using the "dear creator" tag, although I borrow from them a lot.

General likes: forced proximity, curtain fic/domestic fic, hurt/comfort, apocalypse/post-apocalyptic fic, post-apocalyptic curtainfic (lol), open endings, family dynamics, traveling and/or road trips, sex pollen, Groundhog Day stories, slow burns, stories about friendship, friends-to-lovers, friends-to-FWB-to-lovers, found families, teamfic, AUs (especially of the canon-divergent variety), ethical quandaries, and worldbuilding. Feel free to consider all of these prompts.

General dislikes: straight-up non-con/rape, kid fic/next gen/pregnancy fic, on-screen wedding ceremonies or marriage proposals, soulmates/True Love, sexual appearances by non-sexual bodily fluids (non-sexual appearances are fine, if that makes sense), and standard declarations of love (nonverbal expressions of caring/love are great).

I have zero preferences about ratings; stuff I read and look at regularly run the gamut from G to E. I would be happy to receive porn with or without plot. I'm cool with violence and horror, too. I'm a sucker for all character studies and portraits.

I'm equally excited about all the characters I've requested; don't worry that just because one section is particularly long or short, that's equivalent to how much I want it.

My requests are written like fic prompts, but I've tried to make them as art-friendly as possible.

Hi writer! Thank you for writing a story for me!

I really love this pairing when it's antagonistic, snarky, and/or dark. Plus, a mutual curiosity and intelligence paired with Jane's disregard for consequences sounds like it could yield some fun. Not so much interested in fluff here, although you could definitely do something healthier/stabler with alternate setting prompts or something set pre-Avengers. Any prompts that take The Avengers into account, maybe not so much (I have a hard time buying post-Avengers reformed Loki). In the latter case a relationship full of spite, hate, and mutual loathing-cum-attraction (not to mention self-loathing) would be awesome. In general, I love when they're forced into some proximity to each other and when Loki's plots concerning her don't turn out quite the way he expects. Please don't Thor-bash or make jokes about how dumb he is. I heart Thor even while shipping Jane with other people.

Feel free to kill Thor off--this might provide a nice catalyst for something to happen.

I have zero preferences about ratings; fics I read and art I enjoy regularly run the gamut from G to E. I would be happy to receive porn with or without plot. I'm cool with violence and horror, too.

Also: Just because I've requested it for a shipping exchange doesn't mean I necessarily expect a happy ending or a functional relationship.

Things to avoid: There's not a lot, actually. I'd prefer to avoid non-sexual bodily fluids appearing in sex, but otherwise go wild. Other harder kinks are fine. This is one of the few pairings for me for which non-con/rape are 100% A-OK if that's where you want to go.

The only alternate setting I'd be interested in reading is probably noir.

Prompt ideas (feel free to play with, subvert, disregard, etc):
  • I have a fondness for post-Thor Loki-falls-to-Earth AUs, whether his initial goal is to help Jane or get revenge on her.
  • "Pay her a visit" stories, without, you know, ending in the implied rape/torture/murder/however you interpreted that; but seduction is A+, especially if it's more difficult than he anticipated, not because of Thor, but because he's misjudged her in some way.
  • If set post-Avengers or -TDW, I think it would take something weirder to get them together, like sex pollen, shared sex dreaming, forced proximity, other extreme circumstances, etc. (which I happen to adore as plot devices). Or maybe they have to rescue Thor!
  • Jane and Loki at the end of the world. I love post-apocalypse. I love that they're stuck with each other and their complicated history but they're literally the last people they have to talk to. Canon background, please? Prefer no zombies, but contagion, Ragnarok, Thanos, everyone simply disappeared mysteriously, etc, all fine.
  • I would also read anything set in this gifset AU, including Loki teaching Jane how to wield her powers. Yes I would.

I've written about Jane/Loki in a few letters before, so feel free to peruse the "dear creator" tag.

Thank you so much for writing for me! I really love AUs as a trope, both alternate settings and canon divergences, because it's such a great way to explore different possibilities for characters and relationships.

Something approaching canon characterization is important to me, though: even if they're not in exactly the same situation as in canon, hopefully the characters have the same motivations and personality. For example, even if they're not Asgardians, Loki and Thor should always be adopted siblings who grew up together and have lots of angst and family drama. Even if she's not an astrophysicist and works at an, idk, garden center, Jane Foster should be some kind of work-obsessed expert with crackpot theories.

General likes: forced proximity, curtain fic/domestic fic, hurt/comfort, apocalypse/post-apocalyptic fic, post-apocalyptic curtainfic (lol), open endings, family dynamics, traveling and/or road trips, sex pollen, Groundhog Day stories, slow burns, stories about friendship, friends-to-lovers, friends-to-FWB-to-lovers, teamfic, and ethical quandaries. Plus all of the AUs I've listed, lol.

General dislikes: straight-up non-con/rape, kid fic/next gen/pregnancy fic, on-screen wedding ceremonies or marriage proposals, soulmates/True Love, and sexual appearances by non-sexual bodily fluids (non-sexual appearances are fine, if that makes sense).

For any fusion prompts, I don't expect the plot of the original to dominate, so don't worry if you can't make that work. I would be more than happy for any fics to be set in the Curse Workers/Inception worlds with original plots and characterizations.

Feel free to combine any of my prompts or play with them some. Consider them jumping off points, not strict mandates. :)

Dear Rarewoman writer,

Thanks so much for writing something for me! Here, I'm hoping to give you some idea what I like about the characters I’ve requested as well as some more general tropes/plot devices/themes I like and prompts/ideas. I'm pretty easy to please, I think, even though there are lots of details and ideas here. As is hopefully clear, I'm just using the letter to throw out suggestions.

In general, I like the following things (consider them prompts for any of the characters below): forced proximity, curtain fic/domestic fic, hurt/comfort, apocalypse/post-apocalyptic fic, post-apocalyptic curtainfic (lol), open endings, family dynamics, traveling and/or road trips, sex pollen, circus AUs, Groundhog Day stories, slow burns, stories about friendship, friends-to-lovers, friends-to-FWB-to-lovers, canon AUs, teamfic, missing scenes, and ethical quandaries.

Generally, I don’t like, or am not interested in, the following things: straight-up non-con/rape, kid fic/next gen/pregnancy fic, on-screen wedding ceremonies or marriage proposals, soulmates/True Love, and sexual appearances by non-sexual bodily fluids. For none of the characters I requested am I interested in mundane AUs (coffeeshop, bakery, etc).

I have zero preferences about ratings; fics I read regularly run the gamut from G to E. I would be happy to receive porn with or without plot. I'm cool with violence and horror, too. I'm a sucker for all gen character studies.

I'm VERY excited about all the women I've requested; don't worry that just because one section is particularly long or short, that's equivalent to how much I care for her.

Dear Writer/Artist,

Hi! Thank you for creating something for me! In this letter, I want to give you a sense of what I like about the pairings I’ve requested as well as some more general tropes/plot devices/themes I like and prompts/ideas for both fic and art. I'm pretty easy to please, I think, even though there are lots of details and ideas here. As is hopefully clear, I'm just using the letter to throw out suggestions; if something else tickles your fancy, chase it away. A lot of the prompts below are in narrative form, but they're meant to inspire any kind of fanwork.

Generally, I don’t like, or am not interested in, the following things: straight-up non-con/rape, kid fic/next gen/pregnancy fic, on-screen wedding ceremonies or marriage proposals (being engaged or married is fine), soulmates/True Love, and sexual appearances by non-sexual bodily fluids.

I have zero preferences about ratings; fics I read and art I enjoy regularly run the gamut from G to E. I would be happy to receive porn with or without plot. I'm cool with violence and horror, too.
