Dear Night on Fic Mountain Writer,
General likes: forced proximity, curtain fic/domestic fic, hurt/comfort, apocalypse/post-apocalyptic fic, post-apocalyptic curtainfic (lol), open endings, family dynamics, traveling and/or road trips, sex pollen, Groundhog Day stories, slow burns, stories about friendship, friends-to-lovers, friends-to-FWB-to-lovers, teamfic, AUs (especially of the canon-divergent variety), and ethical quandaries.
General dislikes: straight-up non-con/rape, kid fic/next gen/pregnancy fic, on-screen wedding ceremonies or marriage proposals, soulmates/True Love, and sexual appearances by non-sexual bodily fluids (non-sexual appearances are fine, if that makes sense).
I have zero preferences about ratings; fics I read regularly run the gamut from G to E. I would be happy to receive porn with or without plot. I'm cool with violence and horror, too. I'm a sucker for all character studies.
Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan)
I'd love something character-focused about Kamala. Anything about balancing the responsibilities of her life, like her new powers, her relationship with her family (particularly her older brother), her religion (her family members and friends seem to have varying levels of commitment and focus, though my knowledge of Islam is limited to Little Mosque on the Prairie), her social circle and dynamics in high school (like with Zoe, Nakia, or Bruno): any of those would be great.
I love the down-to-earth take on high school student life that we see in the comic. Identity issues and finding-your-place stories are like catnip to me (even if they're pretty thematically conventional - they're conventional for a reason!). I like Bruno a lot and it's clear he has a crush on Kamala, but I'd prefer for that to be backgrounded in favor of their friendship (referencing it is OK). I also, weirdly enough, kind of like Zoe, at least as a character trope if not quite as a person, and she makes an interesting foil for what kind of person Kamala isn't/couldn't be (but, I think, she isn't completely hopeless either - there has to be something Kamala likes about her, right? Or maybe Zoe finds out about Kamala's second life?). Kamala testing her powers or letting Bruno and Nakia run experiments on what she can do sounds hilarious too.
Little Mosque on the Prairie (Sarah Hamoudi, Yasir Hamoudi)
I’d like to see Sarah and Yasir get back together somehow. Maybe Yasir decides to come back to Mercy for a silly made-up reason, maybe he finds excuses to delay (meaning keep working on) a job that keeps him in touch with Sarah, maybe they start seeing each other but sneak around so as not to get Rayyan’s hopes up or because it’s more exciting that way. Alternatively (or additionally), I’d also like to know more about their backstory – how did they meet? How did Sarah decide to convert and what was it like? I love stories about people traveling together, too, and it sounds like they did some of that. Feel free to include any other resident of Mercy, especially if they’re meddling.
Additional notes: This show is my happy place. It’s such a light, cheery, and smart show. It’s just so unfailingly upbeat about the power of people to resolve problems, overcome differences, and be flawed but well-intentioned and lovable. It’s what makes me think the world, and the people in it, are basically good. Which is why I was so disappointed with the Sarah/Yasir situation. I know it was a necessary choice from a production standpoint because of Carlo Rota’s projects, but it was a mystifying and frustrating decision coming from his character, who doesn’t seem like the kind of man to just abandon his wife and daughter, even for his mother/homeland. If coming up with an explanation/rationalization (even a not-very-good one) is possible, I’d love to hear about it, just so it makes more sense in my head. For this fandom, I’m more than happy to make an exception to the no-weddings/proposals-onscreen request; if Yasir and Sarah had some kind of re-commitment ceremony and/or if you wanted to write about his original proposal, I’d be thrilled.
Loki: Agent of Asgard (Verity Willis, Loki)
I'd love to see some friendship fic with these two. Maybe Loki decides to move in next door to Verity. Maybe they go double-dating together. Maybe Loki wants to explore exactly how far Verity's power extends (does it work on implication, intentional or not? #2 seemed to say it might not?). Maybe Verity's power might be useful for some purpose of Loki's, or she needs someone to lie on her behalf (she seemed to have a physical reaction to lies, maybe she can't do it herself?). Curtainfic or adventuresome stuff would be awesome. If you ship it, that's cool too, but I don't like fluff for Marvel Loki in any incarnation and would prefer something more casual or FWB.
Additional details: I love the potential these characters have for each other. Someone she can talk to because he has lots of totally true stories to tell her! (Well, except for how he exaggerates his own accomplishments.) Someone he can't lie to! (Well, maybe - unless he figures out how to get around it.)
The Tomorrow People (2013) (Astrid Finch, John Young)
I really liked the interactions between these two and want to see more more more, whether friendship or ship-ship. I really dig hurt/comfort and that would be great here, as well as Astrid covertly helping or being in touch with the Tomorrow People, something set a few years in the future when their situations are different, it would all be good. Anything about Astrid as a character and/or how she feels about all this paranormal business would be awesome too.
Additional details: This show is as cheesy as all get out, lol. Feel free to pretty much go anywhere with it. Astrid's feelings for Stephen are fair game but I'd prefer no Astrid/Stephen or Cara/Stephen. (Cara/John is fine, though, and for that matter Astrid/Cara or Astrid/Cara/John would be too!) If you like casefic, maybe Astrid has to (or just ends up) help bring someone in for some reason? I really just want Astrid and John to relate to each other.
Intelligence (US TV 2014) (Gabriel Vaughn, Riley Neal)
Stick two attractive people in a law enforcement/spy partnership and I ship it. It's inevitable. It's cool if you don't, though, or if you have an idea for something else, because I like their interactions without the UST goggles too. I'd love to read about anything aspect of their partnership - especially difficulties or differences and how they negotiate that - or more action/spy type stuff like their brief foray of going into hiding/being on the lam - it would be awesome if they had to do that again on a more permanent basis, I love that trope (it's us against the secrets and corruption!). A story about the parts of their backgrounds, like Gabriel's wife or something original on your part, would be a welcome addition too.
Additional details: As a theme, partnerships (and the meaning of them) are golden, as is learning to trust each other and hurt/comfort (I really enjoyed Gabriel getting shot ... maybe the other way around and he has to take care of her?). The political intrigue present in the background of the show would be A+. Moral ambiguity and ethical dilemmas (and the fallout of someone's choices, especially bad fallout or having made the wrong choice) are a bonus.
